As careers go, the early days for John McGinlay were not much to ride home about.
The Scottish frontman had bounced around the lower divisions of his home nation struggling to find a home. Eventually, in 1985, McGinlay would make the move south of the border, looking for something better, joining Yeovil Town.
Three years in the conference did not scratch the itch, with the forward returning to Scotland with Elgin City, before his career trajectory came.
After one year, a man called Ian McNeill came to watch McGinlay play. Unbeknown to the Scotsman, McNiell was the manager of Shrewsbury Town, and needed a striker.
