Match Report: Southampton 0-0 Bolton Wanderers

Bolton Wanderers head back up north with a point, holding Southampton to a 0-0 draw at St Mary's. Both sides had chances to win the game, as Saints controlled much of the narrative, but were denied a penalty as the referee missed Ruben Rodrigues's handball in the box.

Bolton Wanderers secured a hard earned point against Southampton at St Mary's, becoming just the second side this calendar year to stop the Saints from scoring.

The host's had the better of the chances, but Bolton had their own with both Josh Sheehan and Ruben Rodrigues going close in the second-half.

The biggest talking point does involve Rodrigues, for different reasons. The midfielder appeared to handle the ball in the box, blocking a Leo Scienza cross in what almost should have been a penalty, one the referee seems to have missed.

Despite the chances, Wanderers were well worth their point, holding strong with an impressive defensive performance, joining Millwall as the only other side to stop Southampton scoring at home in 2026.
