"We came here and tried to be positive": Steven Schumacher's Bolton Wanderers keep passing Championship tests doing thing's their way

Bolton Wanderers continued their trend of stopping promotion chasing sides as they became just the second team in 2026, to stop Southampton from scoring at St Mary's, drawing 0-0 on the south coast.
Steven Schumacher has promised his team will take on any team in the Championship with no fear, and the blueprint was on show once again this weekend. The Whites may have spent a lot of the game defending, but still had a number of chances to beat a side had won all five of their home games this season.
After beating Wolverhampton Wanderers in sublime style on Tuesday night, it left little time for the side to rest up and go again. Excuses could easily have been made heading into another huge test, especially with Schumacher noting pre-game that Bolton would have to be good in every phase to get anything against the Saints.

A lifelong Bolton Wanderers fan, this club is the reason I began my journalism career. Since sitting in the stands as a kid over 20 years ago, I have gone on to work for the likes of the BBC and The Telegraph before everything led me back to here, to the football club I love.
