The Overreaction: Southampton 0-0 Bolton Wanderers - Grit, determination and a lack of eyesight

Bolton Wanderers secured a strong point at St Mary's holding promotion-pushing Southampton to a 0-0 draw. Steven Schumacher's had their own chances to win the game, but it was Saints who controlled much of the narrative, if not the referee's decision to ignore a handball from Ruben Rodrigues.

Bolton Wanderers make it four points from two as they hold off Southampton at St Mary's, securing a battling point that stops Saints winning streak.

For much of the first-half, Wanderers were on the back foot as Southampton attacked. Using a highline, Bolton fared well, dealing with much of the attacks, launching counters that arguably could have led to more.

The second-half continued in the same fashion, though the Whites chances became much more clear cut. The referee missed a stonewall penalty as Ruben Rodrigues handled the ball in his own box before Bolton could have won the game, Sheehan and Rodrigues failing to convert from close range.
