Since joining Bolton Wanderers in 2024, it's safe to say that John McAtee has been on both the good and bad side of Wanderers fans. An Ian Evatt signing, the now 27-year-old was part of the summer where the then Wanderers boss was looking to get over the play-off heartbreak from Wembley.
As we know, that did not go to plan. Despite the changing of the guard, McAtee would find the net 12 times that season and despite rumours linking him with a return to Barnsley, the attacker remained at Bolton, determined to be a part of this team.
A reduced role under Steven Schumacher never deterred McAtee, as he continued to run and run for this team. Prior to Saturday, the former Luton Town man's last start came at Plymouth Argyle, where he was sent off in a game that most would have seen to be his last in Wanderers colours.
