In the summer of 2023, Bolton Wanderers had just lost their League One play-off semi-final to Barnsley. Despite the loss, the mood at Wanderers was high, with Ian Evatt's side expected to go again for promotion to the Championship.
Premier League loanee's Conor Bradley and James Trafford would not return to the club, with Trafford in particular leaving a gaping whole in the Bolton net.
Evatt and his team moved to secure the services of Chelsea goalkeeper Nathan Baxter, who had just played a season on-loan with Hull City in the Championship. The move, seen as a coup by many, installed the shot stopper straight into the Bolton net.
