Bolton Wanderers first away game since the international break sees them head to the Midlands, taking on Wolverhampton Wanderers under the lights on Tuesday night.
Steven Schumacher's team are facing a run of daunting fixtures whilst needing to respond from Saturday's loss to Stoke City. Wolverhampton Wanderers sit at the top of the table, pushing for promotion back to the Premier League, making the immediate task all that more difficult.
To get the lowdown on Bolton's midweek opponents, we spoke to Tom Gibson of The Wanderers Post on what Schumacher's team should expect.
What Bolton Wanderers can expect from Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night
Rightly so, Wolves have been tipped to push for promotion after dropping down, is that expectation shared by the supporters?
"That expectation is fairly shared by supporters too, I think any team that goes down wants to go back up at the first time of asking. which is understandable. With the quality that Wolves have currently, it would be extremely disappointing not to achieve promotion."
Whilst the team is at the right end of the table, scoring goals has been at a premium despite two wins in the last five. Whats missing for Wolves in front of goal?
"I think there’s a mixture of things, in the Black Country derby Wolves probably would’ve scored five on another day if it wasn’t for Max O’Leary’s heroics.
"On the flip side to that, there wasn’t enough creativity going forward against Middlesbrough and the forward line looked disjointed.
"Missing Raul through injury is huge because he brings so much to the game that stats don’t show. Adam Armstrong is also struggling for confidence, and a goal tomorrow night would really help him kick on."
Saturday’s game saw Wolves on the wrong end of a tight 90 minutes with Middlesbrough, is playing a newly promoted side exactly what the team will want to get back on track, or could it be a banana skin?
"It could be both! Peixoto won’t want to underestimate Bolton and he has been very vocal in the past that he doesn’t want to lose two games in a row.
"Wolves have a huge advantage with the game being played at Molineux and will want to respond in the correct manner with three points, it will not be easy by any stretch, but I believe there’s enough strength in the team to get the job done."
Which player do you think will cause Bolton the most problems on Tuesday night?
"I think I’d have to say Fer Lopez. He’s been incredible to watch so far and seems to be taking every game by the scruff of the neck. Rodrigo Gomes has had a mixed start to the season but is always lively on the right hand side too and could be a danger."
Finally, what's your score prediction for the game?
"I try and avoid these as I never want to jinx things! But I think Wolves will want a good response, I’ll go with 2-0. I think a clean sheet could really help the confidence of the players too."
